Here are some tips:

I have good experience with these 1:100/15mm WWII range manufacturers:

Old Glory:Quality Castings : Good quality, sometimes they omit a component from the package
Flames of War : Nice, but rather expensive
Peter Pig : British company, crazy pages, but good models
SkyTrex : Well-made, but expensive
and Craig Gaming Models (mail only: gamodls [at] raex.com) : Plastic cast vehicles, lower quality, but unbeatable price (4 USD/pcs)

+ Newly discovered:
Quick Reaction Force - The quality looks average, but the range is amazing - for example it's the only manufacturer of soviet NKL26 Aerosan :8)

1:285/1:300 Aircrafts - these are little bit smaller than original ones, but can fill in the gaps in your army:

NavWar : UK manufacturer, almost complete WWII aircraft range; quality unknown, recently discovered
Raiden Miniatures : UK manufacturer, high quality models, but most of them "what if" (german jet planes etc.)
Scotia Grendel : UK manufacturer, wide range, reliable seller; the models are of various quality
